Homosexual Lion of Judah

I among others was grieved this morning to review an overwhelming article from Christian News. The article was written a little over two weeks ago on the eve of the President’s Annual Easter Prayer Breakfast. At the prayer breakfast activists from Soulforce, a non-profit organization that solicits pastors and Christian colleges to change their stance against same sex marriage, presented President Obama with a picture of the Lion of Judah painted in rainbow colors.

I am aware of the spectrum of opinion within the body of Christ regarding homosexuality. I apply a Biblical worldview believing that homosexuality is a sin.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God
– 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NKJV)

I believe that some may be born homosexual because such as belief is biblical.

For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me – Psalm 51:5 (NLT)

Since there is something wrong with all of us to the core of our DNA, then we must be born one more time.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. -John 3:3 (NKJV)

I reject the postmodern opinion that states that to disagree with homosexuality is to express hate. It is possible to take a biblical stance. If one takes a comprehensive Biblical stance then there is no reason to scorn, mock or harm someone who isn’t heterosexual. In other words I proclaim a “truth in love” opinion. The truth is that homosexuality is surmountable and forgiveable.

Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation -Mark 3:28-29 (NKJV)

But in order for us to really believe God can heal homosexuality we have to believe in the healing of what happened to us and what we did to others. How can Christians believe that God is a healer when we don’t let him heal us?

Besides the telling inclusivist theme of the article the social role of Soulforce was the most interesting. From the article:

Soulforce is a religious organization that promotes homosexuality nationwide. It was founded by Mel White, the former ghost writer for Billy Graham, Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell, who later came out as a homosexual. Soulforce is also behind the youth tour “Equality Ride,” which visits Christian colleges and universities across the country to urge students to become open and accepting of the homosexual lifestyle.

We have to rescue God’s divine sacred iconography such as the rainbow(Genesis 9:12-13) and Lion of Judah(Revelation 5:5).

Rescue Plan:

  • Get healed completely– We will never “arrive” and our righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). But the healed man is submitted and keeps growing in his faith and does not feel comfortable in sin (1 Corinthians 15:57). The healed man will miss the mark but he doesn’t lower the standards.
  • Load up with the weapons of warfare – There is no sole natural approach to engage in marriage equality debates. Every action we take must be led by the Holy Spirit(2 Corinthians 10:3-5).
  • Proclaim the Biblical truth – That it is unfair to continue a premise that the truth cannot be in love (Ephesians 4:15).

  1. I absolutely love this part: “But the healed man is submitted and keeps growing in his faith and does not feel comfortable in sin (1 Corinthians 15:57). The healed man will miss the mark but he doesn’t lower the standards.” What a great expression of our journey in Christ!

  2. Very well done. This is a huge issue in part because famous, almost worshiped people have been vocal in the support of homosexuality. We’re a nation easily swayed by rhetoric and emotion. Sad. In my practice, I often remind clients that if there had never been a homosexual, an adulterer, a murderer, etc.—-Jesus would still have had to die. For MY sin, for all of us who believe that because we haven’t indulged in what we like to think of as “gross sin,” that we’re not so bad as others. Sin is sin. Every single bit of it is intolerable to our holy, pure, God. We need to think biblically.

  3. Wow, this is a powerful post! That’s a clear way to think about it: Yes, some could be born that way because we’re all born in sin. “We must be born one more time.” Amen!
